NOIDA: The Noida Authority on Monday held a meeting of stakeholders in public transport and an intelligent traffic management system in a step towards the realization of the comprehensive mobility plan (CMP). If all goes according to plan, the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida will soon be part of the CMP, officials said.
A presentation of the draft CMP was made at the meeting on Monday. According to officials, work on the CMP started nearly 10 months ago, after the Urban Mass Transit Company was appointed as a consultant by the Noida Authority.
“The CMP was discussed by all stakeholders,” said Sandeep Chandra, in charge of traffic cell, Noida. “We will now incorporate and accommodate relevant points raised during the meeting. Within two weeks, the final draft of the CMP will be approved by the traffic cell before being submitted to the Union ministry of urban development,” Chandra said.
The CMP proposes mobility plans pertaining to road infrastructure, personalized and public transport, traffic management, parking woes, non-motorized facilities, reduction in vehicular pollution and other safety aspects of city commuters.
The proposals are made in view of the urban growth scenario and also the present land use and the topology of a city. While the central government provides funding assistance up to 50% in the development projects pertaining to urban infrastructure, the rest of the funding has to come from the respective state government or the urban local development body. The CMP was advocated by the Union government in 2006. The ministry of urban development recommended that a state government present a skeletal plan with desired mobility and also promised financial assistance. However, a CMP is mandatory for getting central funding.
