Chief secy vows to put key Metro projects on fast track

NOIDA: A slew of projects, including two proposed Metro rail routes between Noida, Delhi and Greater Noida, are on their way to being fast-tracked following a visit by Alok Ranjan, the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary, on Friday.

Ranjan said that the plan was to extend the Blue Line from Noida City Centre into a loop, covering various parts of Noida and Greater Noida. The loop line will also be linked with Line 8 (Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden) of Phase-III by a 16.5-km stretch connecting Sector 143 and the proposed station near Kalindi Bird Sanctuary on the banks of the Yamuna.

The loop will consist of one 15-km extension from Noida City Centre to Gaur City Square in Greater Noida West. This will then be extended to Bodaki village in Greater Noida. Finally, Bodaki will be connected with Noida City Centre via stations at Pari Chowk and sectors 147, 143, 85, 101 and 50 in Noida, among others.

Emphasizing connectivity to be the need of the hour, the chief secretary said that the feasibility reports of the two new Metro links would be ready in December this year. “The UP government has already given the go-ahead for three Metro routes – Noida City Centre to Sector 62; Noida City Centre to Greater Noida; and Kalindi Kunj to Botanical Garden – in the last two months. The Memorandum of Understanding has also been signed for these routes,” said Ranjan. “We will not only expedite putting of these tracks on line by starting work immediately and according to timelines but also fast-track the new proposed lines,” Ranjan said.

Ranjan’s stress remained on completion of arterial roads, expressways, highways and bridges to enhance connectivity. “Underpasses, flyovers, elevated corridors and multi-level parking projects will all be fast-tracked to completion to decongest Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway areas and provide smooth vehicular movement,” he said. “To ensure an environment-friendly mode of transport, the cycle tracks will also be put into place immediately,” he said.

Ranjan reviewed the projects of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway areas at a high-powered meeting held in Noida. He directed officials to chalk out roadmaps and implement them towards completion of the projects in a time-bound manner after due inspection and monitoring.

Stressing quality, Ranjan said that the important projects of the three development authorities would be completed in time and problems related to land acquisition and other formalities would be removed.

The projects on the chief secretary’s scanner included Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), Medical University in Greater Noida, Child Speciality Hospital in Noida, Night Safari, Heliport and Convention Centre in Greater Noida, solid waste management system and online grievance system etc. Projects in the forthcoming developing area of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) were also discussed. Ranjan said that distribution of enhanced compensation to farmers in the area for their lands acquired, will be fast-tracked.

The chief secretary also appraised the law and order situation in the district. Taking a strict view of the rising crime graph, cases of extortion and general crime, he directed senior police officers to step up policing. He further directed fast-tracking of all proposed projects including the proposed modern police control room, intelligent traffic management system, supplementary police stations and deployment of additional police personnel. Law and order will be ensured, the officer promised.

The chief secretary was joined by Rama Raman, chairman of three authorities – Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna – and other top officials including principal secretary (Industries) Sanjiv Saran in reviewing several other development projects in the pipeline
