“The urban development ministry has said that since transport is a state subject, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi need to jointly forward a proposal to it,” Deepak Agarwal, CEO of GNIDA, who was present at the meeting, told TOI on Thursday. “The Ministry has asked for a DPR,” he added. According to Agarwal, the alignment of the track, mode of funding for the proposed corridor will all have to be worked out jointly by UP and Delhi. “DMICDC will now write to both the state governments to work out the modalities before a meeting can be set up with the Ministry once again to push the project further on track,” he said.
“Since Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has the required experience in constructing Metro tracks in both states, we are likely to hire their services to put the track in place. This corridor is expected to be integrated with DMRC’s existing Metro network,” he added. Sources said the proposed Metro link is expected to run at a speed of 160 km per hour and will cover a distance of 52.9-km with only five or six station stops on its entire track. The proposed stations are likely to touch areas of Greater Noida at Bodaki and Pari Chowk, Noida Metro stations, Mayur Vihar phase-I and Tughlakabad in Delhi, and Aerocity at IGI Airport.
